Mirador de Abrante, La Gomera: views, access and tips

The Mirador de Abrante is a panoramic platform set high above Agulo, with a glass-floored section suspended over the valley. The scene brings together several layers of landscape: the white village at the bottom of the ravine, the terraces of northern La Gomera, the ocean and, when visibility is good, the outline of Teide across the channel. It is not a long visit, but it is highly photogenic and easy to include on a route through Agulo, Hermigua or the interior of La Gomera.

You reach it by road to the upper area of Agulo, following the inland routes that connect northern La Gomera with nearby hamlets and viewpoints. Driving requires attention: there are bends, changes in gradient and sections best taken slowly, especially in mist or damp conditions. The most practical approach is to treat it as a stop on a route through the north of the island. The viewpoint is signposted on the final approach and has direct access from the prepared area beside the building.

Allow some flexibility to wait for a clear spell if the trade winds cover the area, as the difference between a closed-in day and a clean view is considerable. Bring a light layer: even if it is warm on the coast, the higher ground can be cool and windy. If the glass floor feels too much, you can still enjoy the landscape from the outside area. For photographs, the first and last hours of light tend to work best; at midday, the contrast between sky, glass and slopes is often harsher.
