Faro de Fuencaliente (La Palma): salt pans, volcanoes and the southern tip

Faro de Fuencaliente marks the southern end of La Palma and captures the volcanic character of this part of the island. The site brings together the old lighthouse, the new lighthouse, the Atlantic ahead and the Salinas de Fuencaliente just a few steps away. The visit works through contrast: white salt, black lava, seawater and open sky. It is an easy place to read without much explanation, but it has a strong sense of territory.

Reach it by road towards Fuencaliente, descending to the southern tip of La Palma along the routes that connect the municipality with the coast. The lighthouse area is linked to the Salinas de Fuencaliente and the volcanic landscapes of the south, so it is often combined with a route through Los Canarios, San Antonio or Teneguía. The outdoor area is freely accessible, although any interpretation centre or specific facility may have its own conditions, which are worth checking separately.

The lighthouse area and its surroundings are freely accessible, but come prepared for wind, sun and little shade. Bring water and comfortable shoes if you plan to walk around the salt pans or nearby trails. Do not enter working areas of the salt pans and do not leave waste behind: this is at once a productive, natural and visitor landscape.
