Isla de Lobos (Fuerteventura): what to see, how to get there and practical tips

Isla de Lobos is a small volcanic world between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, with straightforward trails, coastal lagoons, transparent coves and a landscape fully exposed to wind and sun. The route lets you reach El Puertito, walk towards the Martiño lighthouse and see the coast of Corralejo from a clean perspective, without traffic or dense development. It is a protected natural area, so the experience depends as much on respect as on scenery: little shade, minimal services and a bare-island feeling very different from an urban beach.

The usual way to arrive is from Corralejo, in northern Fuerteventura, by ferry or authorised boats running to the islet’s pier. Before buying a ticket, arrange the prior authorisation from the Cabildo, as the daily quota is limited and conditions can change. There is no car access and no motorised circulation inside the island for visitors. Once there, you move on foot along the designated paths, with signposted routes towards El Puertito, the bathing areas and the lighthouse sector.

Bring enough water, some food, sun protection and comfortable shoes: services are minimal and volcanic ground is harder on the feet than it looks. Do not leave the trails, do not approach closed areas and take all waste away with you, because pressure on the islet is quickly felt. If you plan to swim, check the sea conditions and use caution around coves and rocks.
