Montaña de Tindaya (Fuerteventura): archaeological value and how to visit

Tindaya is not just another mountain in the Fuerteventura landscape. Its isolated outline, visible across the north of the island, carries cultural weight through its connection with the ancient Majos and the podomorphic engravings found in its upper surroundings. That archaeological significance explains the current restrictions and calls for a more careful approach than a simple scenic walk. The interest lies in the mountain’s mass, its presence over the plain, its relationship with the island’s open sky and the symbolic value it still holds within the pre-Hispanic memory of the Canaries.

Montaña de Tindaya is in the municipality of La Oliva, in northern Fuerteventura, close to the village of the same name. You can reach the area by road and view the mountain’s profile from the surroundings, always respecting signs and the limits of the protected site. It should not be approached as a free climb up to the engravings: access to archaeological areas is restricted to prevent damage.
