Playa de Amadores: Calm Swimming and a Coastal Walk

Amadores is designed for calm swimming. Its breakwaters reduce swell and protect the beach from wind, which is why the water often feels like a wide, clear pool, easy for children or anyone who does not want exposed beaches. The sand is fine and pale, the beachfront is well equipped and the atmosphere is more about rest than sport. The layout also reduces some of the current movement found on other parts of Gran Canaria’s south-west coast. In return, do not expect a wild cove or an isolated beach: Amadores is comfortable, orderly, with shops and restaurants close by. Its value lies in safe-feeling bathing, the seafront walk and the ease of spending several hours here without depending on the car once parked. For travellers who prioritise accessibility, even sand and services at hand, it is one of the south’s most predictable options.

It lies between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán, in the municipality of Mogán. By car, access is via the GC-1 and local roads towards Amadores, with parking around the beach that fills earlier on weekends and during holidays. You can also arrive by taxi or guagua from nearby tourist centres. One of the best ways to approach the beach is on foot from Puerto Rico along the coastal path: it is a simple, scenic route and useful if you want to avoid moving the car between nearby areas. Check the return if you are with children or travelling in very hot hours. If you rely on the guagua, confirm the return stop and leave yourself enough time towards the end of the afternoon.

Go early if you want to choose your spot and park with less pressure. The beach is very comfortable, but that same comfort attracts many families and visitors. Bring water shoes only if you are sensitive on access points or side walks; they are not usually needed on the sand. If you plan to walk, combine a swim at Amadores with the path towards Puerto Rico and a lunch stop outside peak time. Do not rely on natural shade: bring a parasol, hat and sun protection. Even when the water is calm, keep children under watch at all times and respect bathing signs. On windy days, compare conditions with Puerto Rico or Mogán before settling in: the protection helps, but it does not work miracles. Bring water even if you plan to eat nearby.
