Loro Parque (Tenerife): zoo and conservation in Puerto de la Cruz

Loro Parque is one of northern Tenerife’s best-known attractions and an internationally recognised zoo. It began with a strong connection to parrots and macaws, but over time has added major facilities for marine species, birds, primates and themed environments. The visit is substantial and can take up much of the day if you explore it calmly. This is not a quick stroll through a garden: it is a large site with scheduled activities, indoor and outdoor routes, and logistics that are worth sorting out before you enter.

Among the most recognisable areas are the large collection of parrots and macaws, Planet Penguin, the shark tunnel, the gorilla and chimpanzee spaces, and Katandra Treetops, an immersive walk-through aviary. The park is also known for its orca and dolphin facilities. To avoid wandering blindly, check the official map and programme on the day of your visit, as the most comfortable order depends on visitor numbers, internal timings and any operational changes.

Loro Parque is in Puerto de la Cruz, on Tenerife’s north coast. If you are coming from the south, treat the journey as a significant part of the plan; if you are staying in the north, the visit is much more straightforward.
